As I have a strongly 3D way of thinking, when a concept is born in my mind I shape it in clay rather than just draw it on a piece of paper. Then the negative mould is made, which is corrected and finally the positive shape is cast. Then it is further carved and shaped until perfect as this is going to be the basis of production later.
Tiles and enamels
The mud that I use comes from Germany. It turns white when burnt. During mixing 40 % of fireclay is added to the mud, which enormously enhances the heat capacity of the tile. Out of the technologies know today casting is far the most exact as for measure, proportion and size. This is also the best way to ensure the most optimal homogeneity of the material.
Normally, the enamel is vaporized (sprayed) on the surface of the tiles, but very special shaped tiles are dipped.
